Busy, busy, busy!

The holidays are always full for everyone and for me it hasn’t stopped since. New products in the store, new prints, a local street fair, and a whole new idea for night photography guides for those with limited time. All while travelling for work and shooting Los Angeles’ Venice Canals Historic District. There was a really beautiful waning moon over Malibu and, even as a Bortle 8 zone stars are easily visible. A lot of houses in the area have really creative lighting ideas that are really well balanced and easy to capture, not to mention the reflections! You should defnitely come by if you find yourself in the area.

The new products in the store include a narrower version of the Lanceli called the Super Lanceli, which cuts the spread in half and reduces the light levels by about 40 percent.

I also finally finished my redesign of the Backlight Scanner by making it easier to carry around and more compatible with a variety of flashlights, the Portable Backlight Scanner. Those who aren’t familiar with the product it allows for a backlight to be placed in the middle of the shot but be blocked from shining into the lens itself. A great idea that I thought needed some tweaks.

Finally, with the increase of less expensive LED panel lights on the market I have been working to help provide better shielding. Creativity is often strengthened by limitations and being able to provide similar accessories for Ulanzi and Neewer devices can only help all photographers. The only problem is that they change their products fairly quickly so it can be difficult to keep up with all the new stuff.

Finally, when I am in a town for only one night (like Los Angeles this week!) I often wish that someone would make up a route or series of locations that I could follow and shoot. I always worry that I’m missing out on something because I’m not as familiar with the areas as I would like.

As a result, One Night In… (ONI) was created, with Venice, Central Park, and Monhegan, Maine as the first set. Quebec City, Joshua Tree, and Paris coming soon, and even more walks planned after that. They’re designed to be a 2 hour walk with time to take some amazing images while trying to prevent FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). Go forth and make art everyone!
