When we fist did Broke, it was going to be for several days at La Mama as part of a festival. Due to time constraints I was forced to use their repertory plot. It was certainly adequate based on our needs, but it forced several compromises in regards to some of the choices I made. In addition, the light board itself made us go with a simpler set of cues that could be executed easier. Again, we made it work, but looking back on it, the later production at HERE was much closer to our concepts all across the board.

The use of fluorescents was again, the main lighting concept, which worked out well. The set and blocking were very different however, with the entrances coming from the upstage side instead of the wings. But we all felt that it was a good beginning and was a fantastic chance to see what had worked well and where future problems would lie.
